Extremely loud sounds even for a short period of time can cause permanent hearing loss to the sensitive inner ear. Distance from the source of the sound and length of time of exposure to the noise are important to protect one’s hearing.
Noise defects can be immediate or can take a long time to be noticed. Occupation Safety and Health recommends all workers should not be exposed to a noise which is above 85 dBA for a maximum of 8 hours so that to minimize hearing loss.
