What goes in a kit

What a Good First Aid Kit Contains

These are the items you should expect in a basic kit. Contents differ from one kit to another and bigger kits hold more, so check the product page before you buy.

General guidance only. It does not replace training from a recognised first aid provider.

  • Plasters and dressings. Assorted adhesive plasters and sterile dressings for cuts and grazes.
  • Bandages and gauze. Roller and triangular bandages, gauze and tape for wounds, sprains and slings.
  • Disposable gloves. Protect you and the casualty from infection when you treat a wound.
  • Antiseptic wipes. Clean the skin around a wound. Do not put them in a deep wound.
  • Scissors, tweezers and pins. To cut dressings and clothing, remove splinters and fasten bandages.
  • Eye pad or eye wash. For dust, splashes and small foreign bodies in the eye.
  • Foil blanket. Keeps a casualty warm while you wait for help.
  • First aid guide. A printed leaflet with simple steps, so anyone can follow it under stress.

Keep it ready

How to Look After Your First Aid Kit

Put it where people can reach it

Mount it near the work area at about shoulder height, never in a locked room. Tell staff where it is.

Mark it clearly

A white cross on a green background, or the words "FIRST AID", so a stranger can find it fast.

Check it every month

Look for used, damaged or expired items and replace them. Write the date of each check on a card inside the lid.

Keep medicines out

Kenyan workplace rules say a workplace first aid box must not hold medicine, such as painkillers.

Train your first aiders

A kit helps only when someone knows how to use it. Ask a recognised first aid training provider about a course.

First Aid Kit Questions

How much is a first aid kit in Kenya?

First aid kits at Safety Hub currently cost from KSh 1,500 to KSh 7,300. Car kits are usually the lowest priced; large and occupational kits for workplaces cost more because they hold more supplies. The price list on this page is read from our shop, so it shows today's prices.

Which first aid kit should I buy for my office or school?

Choose by the number of people and the level of risk. A medium box suits a small office or a staff room. Large kits suit bigger offices, schools and institutions. Factories, workshops and building sites should look at the occupational kits. If you are unsure, tell us the number of staff and the kind of work and we will recommend one.

Is a first aid box compulsory in a Kenyan workplace?

Yes. The Occupational Safety and Health Act, 2007 requires an occupier to provide a first aid box or cupboard that is easy to reach, and the Occupational Safety and Health (First Aid in the Workplace) Regulations, 2024 set out the details, including marking the box "FIRST AID" and appointing trained people to look after it. Read the regulations or ask your safety officer for what applies to your workplace. This is general information, not legal advice.

What should be inside a first aid kit?

A good kit holds plasters, sterile dressings, bandages, gauze, disposable gloves, antiseptic wipes, scissors, tweezers, safety pins, an eye pad or eye wash, a foil blanket and a first aid guide. The Kenyan workplace regulations say the contents should follow your workplace risk assessment. Each kit differs, so check the product page for its contents.

Can I keep painkillers in the first aid box?

Not in a workplace box. The Kenyan workplace first aid regulations say medicine must not be kept in the first aid box or cupboard. Keep medicines separate and let a health professional advise on them.

How often should I check and refill a first aid kit?

Check it at least once a month and after every use. Replace anything used, damaged or past its expiry date, and note the date of the check on a card inside the lid.

Do you sell a first aid kit for cars?

Yes. The car first aid kit is the most affordable kit in our range and fits in the boot or glovebox. See the price list above for today's price.

Do you give discounts on bulk orders and accept LPOs?

Yes. We give discounts on larger orders to businesses, schools, institutions, government agencies and NGOs. We accept LPOs, M-Pesa, bank transfer and card. Request a quote on this page or WhatsApp +254 727 855 896.

How fast can I get a first aid kit delivered?

Orders placed before 2:00 PM on weekdays are delivered the same day in Nairobi. Elsewhere in Kenya it takes 24 to 48 hours by courier. We also deliver to Uganda, Tanzania and Rwanda.
